It was just an idea and not a very practical one at that.  Maybe we should just put it aside for now.

Well, as usual, I am thoroughly confused.  I thought the 'What are you reading now' and the 'Recommended authors' allowed for us to decide what we wished to read and then write a review. I have at least 50 books in my TBR collection, most of which have come from recommendations on this and JLB board.  What I read depends on what I have read before, what catches my eye in the donated pile at the hospital, and what series I wish to continue or put aside.

Frankly, to try to have all of us reading the same book sounds WAY too much like school to me, so count me out.   Don't get me wrong: I value your reviews. In fact, I started a volunteer today on Lisa Gardner because someone here wrote about her and the quality of her writing. So I learn from all of you.  I value details that include more than "it was a good book."

As for the NPR list, as I recall, we did not like the authors included to begin with, so why would we use it now as a barometer?

Well Marilyn, you don't have to play. There is a certain camaraderie with friends reading the same book at the same time, dontcha think?

nobody is twisting your arm Marylin.   dont read it then.
if SOME of the folks here want to try it,  then we will do it.  if you dont want to why post and put the idea down.

If you are interested in doing the group read,  then let us know,  if not just ignore the rest of us and keep your negativity out of the thread......thanks

No, Jeff, I do not.  And if you think that group camaraderie would allow a negative review of that same book, I refer you to Mike H's comments about my decision.  I had a long post, with one sentence that was negative, but I do not think he read the rest.  What if I did not like a book that he did, would I be attacked like that with the group?

As I tried to say, and apparently did not succeed, I think the threads already include some of us reading the same books at the same time, books based on recommendations from others on the board. And at no time did I suggest that the review not go ahead.  Free board; free threads. Thanks for your support, though.

Marilyn

This is something people have expressed an interest in doing and I think its a great idea Betty, so don't give up on it if you want to participate.

Those who don't want to do it, don't do it, simple as.

Don has already stated he doesn't want to play but he is interested in the outcome.  It is a different way for us to look at the books we read and I've never done anything like this before so am interested in taking part.

I'm still in even if its not a book I would have normally chosen, I'll read along and post my review.  If I don't like the book, I'll be honest, like I have been with every other book I've read and discussed on here.

I for one, am eagerly awaiting the final list and vote!

I have read 22 of the books on the list, believe Betty has read 24 and others posted how many they had read too.  There were certain authors we did not think warranted being on the list but I don't reacall anyone saying they did not like all the authors

In Goodreads im in SF,fantasy group reads where almost every month when we have time we read the same book.   I find fascinating seeing people like the same things or dislike different things in the same book.

Not the same as school for me.

That is why I thought it would be fun, to see the different perspectives on the same book.  In your other group, how does the group decide which book to read?

How do they do it in actual book clubs? Here's a thought. Have one person volunteer to put everyone's name in a hat and pick one out and that person gets to choose the book (Crime Drama/Murder Mystery). Just a thought.

Let's not get turned off by one negative reaction.. This Will be fun..

We could all take turns choosing..  There aren't that many of us who want to do this.  If Jeff chooses this time, Chrissy can choose next etc.  It will only be half a dozen books or so.  We can keep a regular rotation so we'll all have equal opportunity to pick..

Any ideas ?

If you want, I'll stick the titles we've already got and pick one out and you can all read that.

Maybe put the board members names into the hat Chrissy, then we'll have a list ready-made.  Every time you pull a name, number it.  Then tell all in a post who's what number so we can get ready when its our turn ?

We have to be sure they are available world wide and everyone has time to get them..

I really like the idea of taking turns picking a title.  Great idea, Keys!

Here is what I did - if people want to stick by it.  I wrote down the names on the list, cut them up into even little squares, folded them and stuck them in a bowl.  I wrote out a list of numbers on a sheet.  As I drew each one, I put their name by the number.  The list came out as:-

1.   Keys
2.   Travis
3.   Mohammed
4.   Jeff
5.   Rose
6.   Mike Hughes
7.   Rockman
8.   Joe
9.   Betty
10. Me!

I haven't been able to get in touch with Joe, so not sure if he will take part, and if Rose/Travis/Rockman don't want to, we can always move on down the list as and when.  Is everyone happy with this list, thereby Keys gets to pick the first book?

Can't believe I pulled myself out last!

Thanks Chrissy for doing the job..

'Dark of the Moon', by John Sandford.

The first in the 'Virgil Flowers' series.  The new one will be out Sept 21, so if you like it you can continue the series..

I believe it is available worldwide, if not let me know and I will make another choice..

Shall we set a date to begin and the reviews or just read and review as it happens ?

Excellent, Keys.  I already have the book!  Been a while since I read it too so can refresh.

I think we should set a date for the review rather than when to start it, let people finish what they're reading now, get the book and read it, maybe a few weeks?  I'm a fast reader but not sure how fast everyone else is.
