This is what I want, this is what I need, and yes - the TV series on Amazon are fantastic and wonderful.

I have tried many other authors, some whose first works are good but who rapidly fade by book #3 or #4 etc.

May I ask where I might find another character and author to even be 3/4 of what Harry and Michael are?

Recommendations please, as close as can be to the personna of Harry, and the human insight of Michael.

Thank you

Hi Donelson,
I understand exactly how you feel because it's the same reason I joined this forum some years ago: "How can I find a character as good as Harry Bosch?".
Well, probably you can't... but there are some other great writers that will entertain you as well as Connelly
(I suggest you to join the thread What Have You Been Reading - Part 7 and previous for a even higher number of tips and reviews. There I found what I was looking for: a gold mine)

Now my suggestions (beside Crais and Cannell that I read following this forum tips) for procedurals:
Brian Freeman's Jonathan Stride (Minnesota)
Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole (Norwegian, start with nr. 3 The Readbreast)
Louise Penny's Armand Gamache (Canadian)
Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire (Wyoming)

Donelson,

Chrissy and Tassone have made great recommendations. I would like to add the Kenzie & Gennaro series by Dennis Lehane. The first book is A Drink Before the War. This series is the only one I can think of that has a similar feeling to it as Connelly's Bosch series.

I recommend John Sandford's  'Prey' series ...   In it's center is the main character of Lucas Davenport, who is one of my favorites and has been for years ...  His bailiwick is in Minnesota and his friends and lovers develop over time, so better to start at the beginning ... Sandford also has a second series about 'Virgil Flowers' that is stunning ...

Louise Penny has a fabulous series about Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec  ...  a man of great integrity ... Wonderful stories also developing characters over time ...
