I've read Hose Monkey and thought it was pretty good, but not to the level of his Moe Prager series. I also read the second Tony Spinoza and did not like it as much as Hose Monkey.

That's nice to hear Travis. I didn't really expect 'Hose Monkey' to be quite up to Moe Prager standards, but sounds like it's worth reading. I still find it hard to believe they let 'Hurt Machine' go out the door for free as long as they did.

Brian Freeman has a Jonathan Stride story titled SPITTING DEVIL for $0.99 on the Barnes and Noble site.  I hear this is a longer short story.  Nothing for Amazon US on this one yet.

Mike H - You might get lucky because Amazon UK lists the price at £0.00 which looks like zero to me?

Two more from Blasted Heath are free on Amazon this weekend. Douglas Lindsay's 'Lost in Juarez' and Brian Pendreigh's 'The Man in the Seventh Row'. The Pendreigh book looks kind of interesting especially if you are a movie fan.

'The Long Fall' by Lynn Kostoff is free on Amazon. Great review and 5 star rating from Marcus Sakey. I think this should be a good one. Following Sakey's recommendations has lead me to some great reads I would not have tried otherwise.

Once again, Rockman, thank you for finding this. As the price of gas goes up, I can keep my reading costs under control.

Glad you find it helpful, Dakotapix.

Is there anyone who has actually read any of the 'deals' yet?. Please share your thoughts if you have. I think mhughes posted a brief note about one of the Douglas Lindsay books that was semi-positive. I've read three of the 'deals' so far this year. 'The Hunted' by Dave Zeltserman (free), 'Hurt Machine' by Reed Farrel Coleman (free), 'What it Was' by George Pelecanos (99 cents). On the 5 star Goodreads scale I'd rate 'The Hunted' about 3.5 and I think the other two were a little stronger  at 4 stars.

I never did report back to you about the free Barny Thomson book that I mentioned in an earlier post. Yup, he survived in a rather bazaar ending that I guess has led to further Barney episodes featuring a barber. I'm not sure I would deliberately seek out this character again but might read another if the price was right as in " free" again.

I tried to start Wolf Tickets by Ray Banks but found the lead character so disgusting that I put it away. Probably won't ever try to finish that. Also read the Pelaconos What It Was that you found and enjoyed that one but I generally like all by him. Hope this helps you to continue your efforts. I just started The Long Fall.

Noticed that 'Open Season' first book in the Joe Gunther series by Archer Mayor is free on Amazon. The first book in the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow is also still free. I've never read anything by either.

Thanks Rockman, I haven't read any of these freebies yet, but I have a couple of weeks off work after Easter I'll be reading some then for sure.

I've read the four Liam Campbell stories by Dana Stabenow and tried the first Kate Shukag but could not stay interested so put it away. The Campbell series reminded me a bit of the TV series "Northern Exposure."

Dakotapix - Please let us hear your thoughts about 'The Long Fall' when you finish. I agree you about 'What it Was'. Since I generally like everything by Pelecanos, it probably comes as no surprise that I liked that one also.

Rockman, I recently realized I could put kindle books on my droid (I use a nook and most of the deals you find are kindle only) anyway I went to download the freebies and found many of them now have a small charge (free if you have amazon prime). I did download The Long Fall and read chapter one and thought it was quite good. So keep them coming and from now on I will down load them immediately. The only one I was very disappointed that there was a charge for was The Man in the Seventh Row. The reviews for that one look interesting. And I downloaded The Hurt Machine for my Nook but haven't read it yet.
