I've read them all and I really like their descriptions of Los Angels and surroundings but both seem averse to creating a story that would include scenes in southeast Los Angles. By this I mean south of East LA along the LA River in cities like Bell Gardens, Bell, Cudahy, where the cheapest land was available for dust bowl immigrants.

I grew up there in the 50s among the okies and all.

It may not be Los Angels but it has as much history as San Fernando (Gage and Lugo)

I don't have any input on the question you asked.  However, I grew up in the 50s among the Okies and all as well.  I have actually lived in Oklahoma for most of my life.  Have traveled the world, but always wind up back home in Oklahoma.

"Okies" when I grew up was used as a pejorative as perhaps "immigrants" is used today. It was really a word that described the dust bowl immigration to California from Kansas Oklahoma Colorado and Texas. This how our seed was planted in California when my grandfather stopped the truck in Barstow and prayed for two days asking God to tell him which way to go? East over the Tehachapis or south through the Cajon pass?

God answered my grandfather and he went south and got employment in the pre-lend-lease aircraft industry. Some of family went west and inspired a Steinbeck novel.

I was born there in East Los Angeles in 1942... I guess since my mother and father wished to plant a new seed before he went off to war. Always called an Okie by my schoolmates.

And now there are Californians immigrating to Oklahoma and Texas.  We have a lot of Californians move to Oklahoma City.  We get lots of comments from those who have left CA and come here.  They tell us lots of stories that drove them to leave and move to the center of the country.  The ones we have met and interacted with are really happy to be in a place where common sense and logic rules the day.

We have personal friends who live in Sacramento and they keep us informed about the state of their home state.
