I might have missed it. Who was big wave Dave and what was his significance - mentioned in season 2 episode 10 at the very end.

He is discussed in that episode earlier--by the woman speaking with Harry, at the motel, etc.

Big Wave Dave is the name of the confidential informant who murdered Harry's mother.  Harry tracked him down from a tip he received from one of his mother's old friend who, years later, dying of something, divulged crucial information that enabled Harry to track the killer down by using his police contacts. Unfortunately, Big Wave Dave was already dead of cancer before Harry found him.

More importantly, Big Wave Dave, aka Dave Martinez was a real life person from the central coast (Morro Bay), who lived a big life and unfortunately left this world from cancer within the same period of that episode being filmed. The board shaping scene was an actual rendition of Dave's shop that he kept behind Planet Pizza, in Baywood Park, Los Osos, California. High five to whomever was responsible for that scene, please email me so I can send a six pack...

Unless I'm missing something here that's not the case. Annette McKay talks about a "Mitchel" being the murderer of Bosch's mother, who Bosch then finds out to be called "Fox Mitchel" by visiting the hotel his mother was killed at and checking the log books. Bosch then finds out that he's an informant and checks the informant case files here he finds that his real name is Arno Epperson but has been put into the relocation program. Bosch then meets Police Chief Irving and asks him to dig around for this guy. So Bosch doesn't actually know who his mothers killer is at this point. The next and final scene then cuts straight to him going to some surf shop and talking about Big Wave Dave. He then punches a picture he see's of him and spits on his grave saying and you won, you got away with it. It's really jarring and seemingly makes no sense. "Mitchell" is described as a surfer dude but this is where the links ends. At no point is this name ever mentioned in the episode until right at the end and I can't find any explanation on the internet for it other than here but I'm pretty sure it's not that Big Wave Dave is the killer. Why would the scene right before be Bosch asking Irving to find some information on the killer? Please someone reply and clear this up, thank you.

So from what I can garner from the season 3 recap of season 2 is that they kind of skip the whole waiting around process of getting info from Irving on "Fox Mitchell" and kind of just assume you will go ahh so he found out and now he's going to visit the guy. The show is fantastic but if that's really the way they tell you who his mother's murderer is then this part is very poorly done, jarring moving from one scene that makes you assume you'll be waiting a bit to get this info to jumping straight into confronting the guy. Rushed and confusing. If this isn't the case please someone tell me otherwise. I like the real life parallel's this scene has and how it's ever so slightly 4th wall breaking but other than that it's actually just quite an annoying scene.

Did this ever get figured out? Iโ€™m just as confused as yโ€™all. Is Arlo Epperson big wave Dave?
